Mendocino is looking for an experienced, motivated and product focused buyer looking to take a successful and expanding Toronto based women’s fashion retail business to the next level. The successful candidate will work with the head buyer, management and store staff to develop and execute strategies and identify opportunities that will build a strong commodity mix helping to surpass the division’s financial objectives. Strong critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills along with the ability to thrive in a fast paced environment are a must.

Job Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
• Provide business analysis of product sales weekly to track selling and identify key trends
• As a member of the buying team work with the head buyer in the development and execution of seasonal plans, merchandising and promotional strategies
• Source and approve product for regular and seasonal programs and opportunity buys
• Provide operational support to head buyer and management team
• Develop and submit product knowledge and trend reports to buying team and division
• Identify and shop competition
• Communicate issues to stores using the appropriate communication channels
• Interact effectively with vendors and internal colleagues to achieve departmental goals

Job Requirements:
• Minimum 2 years of retail buying experience in women’s fashion
• Experience in multi-brand buying required
• Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
• Literate in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Self motivated
• Ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial environment
• Availability for frequent travel is a must
• Strong relationship building and communication skills
• Source new products, branded, private label, and opportunity buys in the best quality to be delivered to customers at the best prices.
• Maintain and develop knowledge of fashion trends and ideas in the fashion industry to help select vendors to develop and source product.
