Obakki requires a TECHNICAL DESIGN ASSOCIATE
This position will require a motivated individual that can be self managing and autonomous while also being able to take direction. The role of the technical design associate – which reports directly to the Creative Director/Head Designer -‐ will be to help in all areas of design at Obakki from maintaining filing systems to participating in the actual design process but with emphasis on all the technical aspects. It is imperative that this person will have a desire and passion for the fashion industry and bring current, relevant information to the table. The duties and responsibilities outlined below are not strictly only the role of the assistant but will be possibly shared by another assistant, interns, and senior designer.

Responsibilities (in no particular order):
1. Design Administration
• work to achieve design aesthetic, fit intent and construction
• manage the specification process for the development and execution of specified merchandise
• assist in building styles and necessary inputs including BOM in order to build particular styles in FM and
maintaining all FM information is current
• building complete specification packages
• updating/executing flats from initial sketches
• lead fit session on live model or mannequin to evaluate samples for fit, function, balance, movement, proportion, construction and overall workmanship
•establish specs on all points of measure
•assist in sourcing trims and fabrics
•assist in contacting mills and reps for information and keeping records of necessary information and issuing P.O.’s if required
•updating the spec binder with all up to date information including any and all correspondence
• assist in creating and maintaining line sheets
• updating sampling tracking flow chart
2. Design room/Sample room:
• assist in updating story boards
• assist in filing fabrics and maintaining stock fabric binders
• fabric swatch pricing
• general filing of administration and information that will need to be referenced
• receiving sample fabrics
• swatching patterns and headers appropriately for cutting of samples/muslins
• helping with delegating work to the interns
3. Design Research
• assist in women’s research including fabrics, trims, silhouettes, details, color, mood, and trends
• presenting information in time for meetings or on an as needed basis
4. Design
• present sketches when requested
• present necessary research to support design integrity
• bring ideas to the table and participate in design discussions and fittings
• voice thoughts and opinions
• be current with today’s fashion trends and events
