Toronto Fashion Jobs – Simply Smitten: A Valentine’s Gift Guide For Her

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Undoubtedly, Valentine’s Day is the most anticipated time of the year for most love struck couples, refueling that deep connection. The romantic day devoted to your one and only adds unwelcomed stress and can be quite daunting for any couple, no matter how long you two have been hitched. For those of us who find it impractical and stake out each Valentine’s Day despite having a reason to celebrate, remember the wise words of Christopher Marlowe, a true poetic visionary from the 50s, “Money can’t buy love, but it improves your bargaining position.”

Whether you have left it to the last minute for another year (ahem, boys!), or have struggled for weeks coming up with ideas of your own and have resented the idea of asking her friends, (or even worse, her mother), then you’ve landed among the Valentine’s Day Gods and straight into Cupid’s arms. Here are some quality gifts that will display your immense love for one another, and don’t fall under the “typical” cheesy gift guide category. Classified as the perfect princess, or subtle sweetie, these gifts are destined to please all.

Vancouver Fashion Jobs – For the Hip Hostess

Wednesday, December 26th, 2012

The holiday season is ripe with picture-perfect pairings that come to mind as easily as the opening chords of “Deck the Halls.” Cabernet red dresses and studded pumps, bulky knits, metallic clutches and tuxedo pants worn with glittering cocktail jewellery, tried and true couplings I know will get you through the holiday party circuit. Whether it’s a casual gift exchange with friends or a lavish family feast, these pairings prove two together is always better than one alone. Mix and match these pairs for an epic style statement.

Calgary Fashion Jobs – Accessory Scarves

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012

I can honestly say that winter is my least favourite of the four seasons. Sure everything associated with the cold winter months – hot chocolate, cozy nights and the festive holidays – are nice, but bone chilling Canadian temperatures can put a damper on all that, especially when it comes to your wardrobe. Layering is always cute, but when you add jackets, hats, scarves and gloves into the mix you can end up being mistaken for a plump snowman. That’s why I like to incorporate my outer layers with my outfit to get rid of some winter bulk, and the best way to do that is with an accessory scarf. This versatile garment is the perfect accent to any outfit and the best part is you don’t have to check it at the door.

1. Alexander McQueen Skull print chiffon scarf, $295, available at Net-A-Porter

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Trick or Treat

Wednesday, October 24th, 2012

Dressing for Halloween doesn’t necessarily mean you need to throw on a costume and wig as you try to convince people you are the latest reincarnation of Morticia Addams. An equally fun approach is to take all the trappings of Halloween (skulls, leather and spiders oh my!) and spin them into an outfit that will be more of a treat than a trick.

1. BDG Twig High-Rise Faux Leather 5 pocket, $69, available at Urban Outfitters
2. Truly Madly Deeply Lace Skull Muscle Tee, $39, available at Urban Outfitters
3. Charlotte Olympia Spider Embroidered Slipper, $675, available at Neiman Marcus
4. House of Harlow 1960 14 KT Plated Oval Skull Ring, $103, available at Bloomingdales

Vancouver Fashion Jobs – The Smoking Slipper

Sunday, October 21st, 2012

I will have you feeling like Hefner with this Fall trend… I am loving the fact that flats are not only in style this season, they are also sexy and effortless as the smoking slipper is all over the place. From the catwalks in Paris to your chain retailer, there are many choices to settle your fancy at every price point. Luxe in rich jewel tones and textured leathers and prints, which are the perfect stylish footwear du jour this Fall and Winter season. Of course you may have to watch for the rain, but hey, when the sun comes out to play, maybe your feet will too. Chic in simplicity, sexy in texture, giving all the sass and roar of a stiletto while saving you a heel.  Which is how, for this season, the flat got its sexy back.

Calgary Fashion Jobs – The Rock and Roll Riding Boot

Thursday, September 20th, 2012

Equestrian-inspired pieces have long been a standing staple among the fashion elite – especially as the leaves start to turn – and as such, no cool weather season would be complete without a tribute to the iconic shoe behind the look: the riding boot. While the classic version of this wardrobe fixture will never go out of favor, as an updated take on an old favorite, the riding boots available for Fall 2012 do not disappoint. With a rock and roll edge right on-trend, these new boots are a little bit country, and a whole lot fierce. Look for lavish hardware, patent or matte finish leather, high heel and ankle varieties, all in jet black tones and pair them with everything from skirts and dresses to skinny jeans and leggings. Time to get out of the stables, head downtown and admit once and for all, we are fashionistas and we are just a little bit bad-ass.

1. Tommy Hilfiger Boot with Leather Braid Detail, $248
2. Alexander McQueen McQ Chain Riding Boots, $800, available at Shopbop
3. BCBG MaxAzria Franz Riding Boot, $395 US
4. Tory Burch Calista High Heel Riding Boot, $525 US
5. J.Crew Emmett Wedge Ankle Boots, $318

Montreal Fashion Jobs – SAG Awards 2012

Tuesday, January 31st, 2012

While acting honours were given to both Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer for their performances in “The Help” they both received best-dressed ensembles as well. Davis shined in a white, Grecian gown by Marchesa with gold detailing, while Spencer wore another Tadashi Shoji in a sparkling, draped silver gown hitting her in all the right places.

Many red carpet hits had pops of colour with Michelle Williams in a red Valentino with lace cap sleeves, along with matching Lanvin clutch, heels and Fred Leighton for Forevermark jewels. Emily Blunt was a knockout in a jade-hued Oscar de la Renta gown with a bow shoulder detail and sexy slit. Kyra Sedgwick just gets better with age and looks red hot in a cutout Pucci gown. And va-va-va voom Sofia Vergara worked that hot pink Marchesa like a pro.

Emma Stone looked elegant in a black, tea-length Alexander McQueen number with a lace bodice. Other black show stoppers were Angelina Jolie’s backless satin Jenny Packham gown paired with gold, vintage jewelry, a Louis Vuitton clutch and Stacy Keibler in a lace Marchesa gown.

Riskiest choices came from “Bridesmaids” star Rose Byrne, who opted to wear pants on the red carpet, being a white, beaded Elie Saab jumpsuit and Zoe Saldana in a white Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci gown and Tiffany jewels.

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Feminine Elegance

Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

As we were considering the idea of ladylike style, a handful of associations immediately came to mind. Some referenced history (pristine white gloves, restricting undergarments, slim-silhouettes and modest hemlines) and others the most talked about TV shows (Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire and Downton Abbey). Meanwhile on the spring runways we saw Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabanna channel their ladylike interpretations with a colour scheme of sweet peachy hues, pretty pinks and champagnes. Inspire your own wardrobe with handbags, cardigans, dresses and pumps finished with girly trims of bows, lace, peplums and ruffles.
