Vancouver Fashion Jobs – Layering Essentials

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

Slips, camis and seamless bodysuits are all often forgotten essentials to the outfitting process. These layering items are integral to providing the right support and look to any number of outfits, especially in the summer, when fabric tends to be particular sheer.

When finding that perfect slip for your favourite summer dress, you have a couple of options. Most slips tend to be seamless, which works best for layering. Silk is often the best fabric for slips since it tends to hang loosely and is slippery against most cotton fabrics that are widely used in summer apparel. For silk dress slips, Aritzia carries a few options that are reasonably priced, starting at $65.

Seamless Spandex/Nylon body-hugging slips are also a popular option and provide support and body contouring in addition to their layering use. Free People offers a number of seamless slip option, my favourites being the Seamless Mini and Seamless Romper.

Transitioning certain summer pieces to the office can often be tricky, but with the right cami, it can be a piece of piece of cake. Basic seamless tanks offer additional coverage, like American Apparel’s Baby Rip Tank Top, in either racerback or spaghetti strap options. For a daintier look, try a lace & silk combination tank top like Dolce & Gabbana’s ultra-feminine version. Similarly, half-slips work fantastically under office skirts, and lace trimmed ones, like Ruche’s tiered version, offers up a bit of interest and added detailing. From basic to lacey and girly, layering pieces are a definite spring/summer necessity.

2. FP Intimately Seamless Mini, $28.43, available at Free People

The traditional coming of spring brings bold, vibrant hues, and soft, muted pastels. However, who says we have to stick to these guidelines? For Spring 2013, more designers such as Calvin Klein, Saint Laurent Paris, Ralph Lauren, and Michael Kors all incorporated head to toe black looks into their collections. Not entirely for an all black look on a hot day? Another relived trend brought back to us this spring, is the classic two-toned black and white look. Montreal Fashion Jobs – The Gentleman’s Style Guide: First Date Edition

Tuesday, January 29th, 2013

Let’s get serious guys, when it comes to first date jitters you can relax and let your personality shine, we here at Style Nine To Five have got you covered when it comes to what-to-wear. Step 1: Don’t over think it. You never want to be overdressed on a first date, but you also don’t want to be underdressed either. Dress for comfort, and make sure your shirts are pressed, your jeans are washed; as is your hair! Step 2: Trust your gut and disregard everything your roommate tells you! He probably doesn’t even own a clean pair of socks that match. Wear what feels comfortable to you, but take certain style cues from guys in the public eye like Brad Pitt and Ryan Gosling who are regularly on the best-dressed lists and truly know how to wear the basics. Crew necks in black, or charcoal grey are a great staple and pair perfectly with a classic pair of indigo denim. Effortless style and a winning personality are what are going to give you points this first time around. Step 3: The most important of all – Don’t forget your smile, it’s your best accessory.

Friday, January 4th, 2013

The short winter days and bone chilling temperatures alone is enough to drive us right out of our own country, seeking refuge down south. Tropical destinations such as The Caribbean, Mexico, and Costa Rica are ranked among the top most desirable places to visit this time of year. Shifts in seasons here in Canada, are enough to harm your skin and body overall. Before you jet off on your holiday, ensure you are well equipped to handle the drastic change in weather. Dig out those last season sandals, but indulge in something new to build up the anticipation before leaping on that plane. Toronto Fashion Jobs – The New Take on Velvet

Sunday, November 4th, 2012

Remember those grungy velvet dresses from the 90s that made us all look like Wednesday from the Adamms Family? Believe it or not, velvet has made its way back on the market, falling under the top 10 trends for fall. With its sexy sheen and luxurious touch, they’re calling it the “Velvet Revolution.” From Armani and Gucci, to Burberry and Ralph Lauren, we saw head-to-toe velvet looks dominate the Fall 2012 runways of the most highly respected designers around the world. Velvet is an easily transitional trend for this season, which can take you from a lunch date with the girls, to a holiday party on the weekend. For a subtler look, try darker shades that won’t be as noticeable, and for that “wow” factor, opt for a jewel tone like emerald or ruby. Give this edgy yet glamorous trend a more modernized try, and guaranteed, you will feel more royal than goth.

Vancouver Fashion Jobs – Go Fish

Monday, October 1st, 2012

A fisherman’s sweater, also known as an Aran jumper (you learn something new every day), has a cozy, timeless appeal that you’ll love to snuggle in this fall. Toronto Fashion Jobs – Wonder Woman’s Cape

Sunday, September 23rd, 2012

Despite popular belief, you don’t necessarily need to be a super-hero to wear a cape. As Fall settles in, the options for this trend are endless; from long and voluminous, to the shortest capelet, each one is charming, stylish and ready to add a certain mysterious air to any outfit. If your arms are cold due to the lack of sleeves (understandable), take a cue from the Wonder Woman fashion guide and throw on a pair of long gloves. You might not be saving the day super-hero style, but you will definitely look good.

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Turbanarama

Friday, August 17th, 2012

Every girl deserves to wear a crown and lucky for us, ladies, the fashion industry’s current favorite is for the funky and daring. The turban is a hot trend that has been hitting the runway for the past few seasons and is now finally merging in to the mainstream supported by fashion’s bravest contenders. It can be styled in many different ways, like the examples above, but my personal favorite? The turban headband – it’s a no fuss, no mess alternative to a bad hair day and adds that extra ‘it’ factor to any look. Best of all, the turban is pre-styled for all you girls out there who love the trend but may not be as interested in DIY, and the colors and patterns are endless so you can really have fun with this look. I’ve traded in my crown for now, and I can’t wait to see how other style lovers will rock their turbans this Fall.
