Fashion Jobs – Montreal Fashion Week Comes to an End

Tuesday, February 12th, 2013

Will Smith shows up at Ralph Leroy! Pregnant Melissa Nepton wins the chance to design a line for Target! Pedram Karimi plays anything but safe! These are just some of the many highlights from Montreal Fashion Week. It was an international scene and the city never felt more alive. With so many new additions added along with the anticipated runway events, everyone from all over came to see what was in store.

For Fall/Winter 2013, designers were not afraid to add some extra edge to their collections. Bold blues and pinks could be seen for miles such as Martin Lim’s cobalt pieces.

Sheer was shining and what better way to add a Canadian take than to pair these materials with furs such as pieces from Rush Couture’s collection.

So many designers are known for their take on tailoring and Rachel Sin’s architectural background was something that did not go unnoticed.

Now, let’s not forget the fabulousness of being at these fashion weeks – people flocking as they fill up their seats and, of course, being seen at the latest party.

We have so many amazing designers in our own background and should support them. I’m still adding to my current season wardrobe for this year but can’t wait for next fall to come around!

Fashion Jobs – Rachel F. Does Montreal Fashion Week

Monday, February 4th, 2013

With Montreal Fashion Week in full swing, it is only fitting we pay homage to Rachel Fortin – a locally based designer who does more than her fair share for the environment. To reduce waste, Fortin gives old fur and leather a new lease on life by reusing the material and making it into something modern. Instead of being an old coat that might find its way to the dump, it becomes a stylish bag, an incredible hat, or a luxurious cowl. Check out some of our favourite pieces currently available!

1. Rachel F. Snake-M, $207
2. Rachel F. CAPE D’ÈVE-VISON CRÈME, $158
3. Rachel F. Scarlette-Castor, $124
4. Rachel F. TUQUE MTL-RAYE NOIR, $80
5. Rachel F. NK/RENARD BLANC, $38
6. Rachel F. CACHOT VISON BEIGE, $53

Fashion Jobs – Montreal Fashion Week f/w ‘13 – PREVIEW

Sunday, February 3rd, 2013

January whizzed right by and we are officially getting ready for the coming of many fashion weeks. Paris Couture Fashion Week just finished up and back here, at home in Canada, we are all anticipating what is to come at Montreal Fashion Week. Designers have been very busy putting together their collections for Fall/Winter 2013, which will be featured at The Arsenal, the city’s contemporary art complex, February 4th to 7th. Known for its variety and quality, many have been anticipating this season’s MFW ever since it was announced by producers Groupe Sensation Mode, in collaboration with P&G Beauty & Grooming, that there will be several new features for the fashion community to see.

One of these brand new highlights will be the Fashion Premiere – a presentation of over 20 fashion films that will be taking place every night at 8:00pm in the MFW Cocktail Room. The concept of combining cinema and fashion is just one of the many ideas that MFW is trying to create as a more unique experience for attendees coming from all over the world. It should also be mentioned that some of the fabulous events are FREE such as the History of Fashion events at the McCord Museum taking place now until February 6th.

This season’s roster of designers features a group of men and women who have been known for creating looks that represents Canada’s fashion scene from all different aspects:

Harricana by Mariouche, Nadya Toto, Mélissa Nepton, MARTIN LIM, PEDRAM KARIMI, by THOMAS., Annie 50, RUSH COUTURE par/by CLAUDETTE FLOYD, Rachel Sin, Ralph Leroy, COKLUCH, Symbiose by hinda A., Matière Noire, nisse, BANG couture, L’AUTRE COUTURE DE LUKO MARION, Isabelle Elie and CIMM

Montreal Fashion Week, 21st Edition

Wednesday, September 14th, 2011

After years of shining the spotlight on our city’s unique eclectic style, Montreal Fashion Week recently celebrated its 21st anniversary. From September 6th to the 9th, fashion lovers flocked to the Mecca of all things fabulous, as runway shows were held in the Old Port at the stunning Marché Bonsecours.

Organized by Sensation Mode, the event gave us a sneak peak into the most exciting trends for the upcoming seasons, as Canada’s brightest and most promising designers showed off their talents.

Denis Gagnon, Philippe Dubuc, Marie Saint Pierre, Barilà, Travis Taddeo, Cluc, Dimitri Chris, Simon Chang, Annie 50, Anomal Couture, Soïa & Kyo, Anastasia Lomonova, Andrew Floyd, Dinh Bà Design, Mélissa Nepton, Iris Setlawke, Label Europe, and Duy (among others) all presented their Spring/Summer 2012 collections.

Of course, the front row and post-show VIP lounges were the stomping grounds for Montreal’s fashion elite.

Spotted? Denis Gagnon himself, sitting pretty in his high drama black frames at Travis Taddeo (the Lasalle College grad’s collection was all about stylish feathers, fantastic capes, distressed denim, black leather, and transparent blouses).

Denis Binet was also surrounded by hot young fashion things. The consulting stylist for Pantene Pro –V and his team were busy doing hair backstage.

The runway shows were all breathtaking and the event’s energy, even more so. Everywhere you turned there were daring outfits, free-flowing bubbly, gazelle legs, and flashing lights. There is no doubt that when Montreal does fashion, they do it right.

Mélissa Nepton (above) showed a Fall/Winter 2011 collection full of fur accessories and layers of neutral knits and silks. It’s quite refreshing to see a collection that is actually appropriate for our chilly Canadian winters!

Post-Vernissage presented by TRUSST club. She specializes in fashion design and media arts, his areas of specialization are product design and architecture. Together, designers Ying Gao and Karl Latraverse delivered a truly inspired show with a concept that relies on ‘one idea, multiple probabilities’. Think: one garment worn an infinite number of ways.

Montreal Fashion Jobs – Montreal Fashion Week

Friday, January 28th, 2011

The official schedule for the 20th edition of Montreal Fashion Week was released last week, and we could not be more thrilled by the line up! Our favourite veterans like Marie St-Pierre and Denis Gagnon will be making appearances, but there is plenty of new talent that should not be missed! My pick for the must-see show at the FW2011 collections is the Collective Fashion Show presented by TRUSST, featuring three relative newcomers to the Montreal design scene.

1. THOMAS

THOMAS.

Thomas.’s second collection is rumored to be a contemporary take on both structured and softer shapes and forms.

2. CHRISTIAN L’ENFANT ROI

CHRISTIAN L'ENFANT ROI

Christian l’Enfant Roi launched his first collection at the end of 2010 but has already received lots of local and international media attention. Somber, old world inspired looks characterize this menswear collection.

3. SAMUEL MERCURE

SAMUEL MERCURE

Samuel Mercure began his career as an installation artist and sculptor. He has since turned to fashion and will be debuting his first collection at Montreal Fashion Week. Here is what we’ve been told to expect: ‘This collection is for unique but fragile and vulnerable individuals looking for strength and protection from the elements around them.’ – Sensation Mode

Collective Fashion Show presented by TRUSST on Thursday, February 10th at 6pm at Marché Bonsecours.
