Montreal Fashion Jobs – Spring Florals

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Just as the snow begins to melt and transforms the world with the vivacious colours of spring, blowing new life into budding blooms, we are beginning to breathe the same life into our dreary winter wardrobes. As we toss out the dark pieces of the past season, we’re making room for the feminine pastels and of course the pattern that is synonymous with spring: floral. Over the years, florals have evolved with the trends, making them a go-to print for designers. Most recently used on the runways of Rachel Roy and Nicole Miller, this pattern has become the hottest trend of the season. From lace to prints, this pattern is commonly known for its sweet innocence but lately it has never been sexier.

Montreal Fashion Jobs – Sneaker Chic

Sunday, April 8th, 2012

Join the race to Spring’s pumped up footwear. Outside the runway shows this season, we saw our favourite fashion elite sporting an unconventional trend, which had fashionista’s changing out of their heels and into, dare I say? Gasp! – Sneakers! From the street to the runway, there was everything including built in wedges to hot high-tops and these sporty chic sneakers were seen in the spring/summer ready-to-wear collections of Marc by Marc Jacobs and Richard Chai Love.

Isabel Marant has become the reigning champion of luxe sportswear, especially most recently with the explosion of her wedged sneakers on the fashion scene. Typically luxe sportswear style is paired with heels to add the chic factor to the lightweight fabrics and on-the-go designs, but this season I found trendsetters dressing down their outfits with a pair of their favourite pumped up kicks.

If you’re a bit on the petite side, avoid wearing high-top sneakers as these shoes are all about leg and height. You don’t want to wear anything on your feet that will cut you off or make you look shorter than you really are. Instead stick to a low-cut running or tennis shoe. Using lively bursts of colour, pretty pastel shades or colour blocking is an effortless way to “sneak” in a few fresh trends that will surely breathe a breath of fresh Spring air into your sneakers. Incorporate the chic sneaker into your ensemble, even if your wardrobe is filled with ultra-feminine pieces. The key to working the sneaker the correct way is to opt for a cool, casual feel with your outfits. Pair them with unfussy minimalistic pieces and simple, sleek silhouettes to give your look those clean lines sportswear is all about.

Remember, no athletic activity required. On your marks, get ready, set, go!

6. Lanvin Black Canvas Cap Toe High-Top Sneakers, $630 USD, available at Bluefly
7. Nike Zoom Elite Sneaker, $89.99 USD, available at Foot Locker

8. Alexander Wang “Dillion” Sneaker, $385 USD, available at La Garconne

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Successful Spring Season

Monday, March 26th, 2012

Spring shopping is in full effect and should be getting busier in your stores! Here are some tips on how to make each day a success:

1. Be flexible. Busier times can be stressful times for management: remember to take care of your employees. Even though you have blackout periods, try to be flexible with your employeeʼs availability. A happy employee will work even harder for you because they want to. Be flexible in what can be a hectic time.

2. Reward employees for a good job or sale. If an employee makes an amazing sale, how are you rewarding them – besides the commission they may be receiving? I’ve mentioned this before…I used to buy a Starbucks card, or a MAC gift certificate to show my appreciation…or even the odd lipgloss or chocolate!

3. Add to the sale. Donʼt let a customer go into the fitting room with just one item. Itʼs not about being pushy. The customer doesnʼt know the stock as well as you. Maybe a top they might love is hidden and they just didnʼt see it. You also know what looks great on – as we know, many things look better off the hanger! Gauge the customerʼs style and choose a few other items you think theyʼd like. Theyʼre already in the fitting room, whatʼs another few items? Is there a great pair of pants that would look good with the top and help sell it? Donʼt forget to top off the sale with matching accessories!

4. Be passionate, excited….and remember to smile. Itʼs all about how you come across to the customer. Are you excited about the item youʼre selling? This will make them excited, too. Choose items to add to the customerʼs fitting room that you yourself love so your suggestion is genuine…”We got this really great top in yesterday and it looks amazing on!” or “I have this top myself and get tons of compliments when I wear it!”

5. Store atmosphere. When you walk into your store, is there good music playing, dust bunnies removed, finger prints from your glass entrance door and fitting room mirrors removed? Are customers being greeted?

I hope youʼre able to take a few pointers! Here’s to an amazing spring shopping season to you and your teams.
