Toronto Fashion Jobs – Mad for Mod

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

You say you want a style revolution for 2013 so begin the New Year by transporting yourself back in time to a high-spirited era that’s mad for mod. The swinging 60s make their return this year with retro brilliance that’s a bold blast from the past.
Looking through your rose coloured lenses, you’ll gain perspective on the eccentric era that brought notable new style to life. From pop art to futuristic mod to the happy, yet haute hippie, fashion looks back to this revolutionary decade with no shortage of reference points. Start the year off embracing this retro revival by turning back the clock with 60s reminiscent clear-cut patterns, high-contrast colours, blunt silhouettes and wild geometric prints.
To join the mod squad, give a nod to the carefree, youthful vibe emanated by the decade with graphic mod prints, decorative flower power embellishments, swing coats and geometric shifts that’ll easily take you from winter to spring, and back again, with the slip of an opaque pair of black tights to relieve fashionable nostalgia with Twiggy-like proportions.
As you take a psychedelic trip down memory lane, you’ll be left feeling and looking extra groovy in go-go girl glamour as the 60s return with a modern makeover for 2013, proving that eras gone by can still be hip and totally current.

Montreal Fashion Jobs – Backpacks

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2012

Nothing hits nostalgia quite like sporting a backpack. These bags are here to stay with a whole new look. Available in a wide variety of styles, colours and textures, they’re nothing like what you grew up with. No matter your taste, you’ll be sure to find one that fits your everyday style. Opt for a a bold Aztec or Zebra print, perhaps a simple and casual leather backpack, or even a luxurious, lady-like option (take a cue from Ashley Olsen, pictured above with a crocodile backpack). The best thing about backpacks, besides adding a fashionable touch to your look, is its functionality because let’s face it, fitting a laptop or books isn’t easy or comfortable with a pretty purse. Find your new favourite bag and strap on a backpack like the good old days with a reinvented, modern edge.

As soon as we are ready to bid adieu to winter coats in order to make way for spring, the fall fashion shows begin. And once again, we crave the winter season. This is the dilemma of every fashion-lover, but we anticipate the future months regardless by adding to our fall shopping wish lists. I’ve chosen a few of my favourites from the New York collections below (in no particular order).

1. Alexander Wang undoubtedly remains a fashion favourite, with his constant reinvention and play on textures (see: bomber jackets-meets-poncho hybrids, fur blazers and sweaters-turned capes). To top it off, Wang showed accessories to die for!

2. 70′s aren’t going anywhere. BCBG Max Azria brings us another season of dropped hemlines and minimalism.

3. One of my favourite collections was from Cushnie et Ochs, who embodied a juxtaposition between a call to nature and sexiness. Body-conscious dresses were paired with fringe, elastic boning and completed with a feather in hair.
4. The Row put on a show that once again proved why the Olsen Twins remain on my list of style favourites. Decadent furs, tailored suits, divine dresses and impeccable styling made this collection one to remember.
5. I love androgynous looks and I love Rad Hourani. The Canadian designer worked his signature unisex pieces with perfect draping and expert tailoring in beautiful wools and leathers.
6. Rachel Roy’s fall line was whimsical and feminine with an urban flair. I loved the layered looks: full skirts, cozy sweaters and structured blazers were finished with a hint of fur and texture.
