Fashion Jobs – Fashion’s Night Out: Canadian Edition

Monday, September 3rd, 2012

Fashion fiends, fasten your Gucci belts, September 2012 is going to be a busy month. Not just back to school for the kids, or The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), but now in its fourth year, Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) is finally coming to Toronto and other cities across Canada. This Thursday, September 6, Canada’s fashion industry is taking FNO by storm to highlight fashion and support retail with many exciting events including designer appearances, celebrity guests, fashion shows and musical performances.

In Vancouver, be inspired by the worlds most dazzling diamonds when you visit Tiffany & Co. at their Burrard St. location. Celebrating 175 years of iconic style, there will be art, fashion, tunes and treats in an atmosphere dripping with the sophistication and elegance of Tiffany jewels. After all, diamonds are a girls’ best friend!

For Toronto style mavens, the city is already a buzz with the impending surge of Hollywood A-listers who will be popping in and out for the TIFF, so let’s show them how fashionable Canadians can be in support of our local design companies. Toronto-based label Aime by Monica Mei is kicking off the festivities with the launch of her first showroom boutique. Preview the new fall/winter 2012 collection and receive a complimentary gift with purchase!

In Montreal, the famed shopping event modeled after FNO NYC, will take place for it’s inaugural year in the city’s historic Old Port. In my opinion, Montreal-based designer Denis Gagnon is the one to watch. His unprecedented talent is not to be missed, so make sure you venture into his chic boutique this Thursday to view his eccentric new collection!

Be sure to show your support this year, get out, shop, have a great time and keep Canadian fashion on the map. Tweet @FNOVancouver and @StyleNineToFive and let us know where you’ll be seen this Thursday!

Edmonton Fashion Jobs – Toronto Fashion Week: The Ones to Watch

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

It’s always fun to see the latest collections from some of Canada’s most well-known designers, but LGFW is also about supporting new local talent. Here are three emerging designers that showed last week at David Pecaut Square that we think will become an important part of Canada’s style scene.

Caitlin Power
Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Caitlin Power has caught the attention of Avenue magazine,
Toronto Fashion Incubator, and the White Cashmere Collection. With an aesthetic inspired by androgyny and architecture, her Spring/Summer 2012 show at LGFW featured sultry cut-outs and angular shapes that demand attention.
Cassie Dee
This patternmaker and instruction turned designer launched her own line in 2010. Her show was part of the Mercedes Benz start up show, meant to showcase emerging talent, and was a cohesive line of western-inspired pieces accented by burnt orange prints.

Anu Raina

This is Anu Raina’s second show at LGFW after a successful debut in April, and she has been featured in the Globe and Mail and CBC Radio as a promising entrepreneur. Raina’s unique textiles and flair with colourful prints make her sweet, simple designs stand out.
