Vancouver Fashion Jobs – Summer Sundresses

Thursday, May 23rd, 2013

When it starts to get really hot out in the summer, we are often left with fewer stylish choices in our closets. Summer sundresses are the solution to that problem, and come in any imaginable colour, length and shape. The hallmark qualities of a good sundress though, are breathable fabric, comfort and an easy summer aesthetic quality.

Prints are an easy way to make a statement with a basic item like a sundress. Zara has always provided consumers with easy to wear prints that also have a certain fashion appeal. The Long Printed dress is a great combination of tropical inspired print with a flowy, short sleeved maxi dress.

For those seeking something a bit more basic, Canadian retailer Aritzia is a good option for a number of basics. Their Wilfred Free Helena dress is a simple jersey tank dress with a shapeless silhouette that can easily be paired with jean jacket for instant “cool girl” appeal.

If shapeless silhouettes aren’t your thing, check out the uber feminine dress selections from LA designers, For Love & Lemons. Their 2012 summer collection is a girly-girl’s candy coloured dream, with lots of sheer fabric and lace detailing. The Lux Maxi dress, as seen on modern day fashion icons like Nasty Gal’s Sophia Amoruso, is a fantastic summer dress that lends itself well to a number of summer occasions.

Whichever way you choose to style your summer sundress, there is certainly no limit to the options available. The right dress can help you beat the heat in style for years to come, so be sure to choose wisely!

2. Wilfred Free Helena Dress,$45, available at Aritzia

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Simply Smitten: A Valentine’s Gift Guide For Her

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

Undoubtedly, Valentine’s Day is the most anticipated time of the year for most love struck couples, refueling that deep connection. The romantic day devoted to your one and only adds unwelcomed stress and can be quite daunting for any couple, no matter how long you two have been hitched. For those of us who find it impractical and stake out each Valentine’s Day despite having a reason to celebrate, remember the wise words of Christopher Marlowe, a true poetic visionary from the 50s, “Money can’t buy love, but it improves your bargaining position.”

Whether you have left it to the last minute for another year (ahem, boys!), or have struggled for weeks coming up with ideas of your own and have resented the idea of asking her friends, (or even worse, her mother), then you’ve landed among the Valentine’s Day Gods and straight into Cupid’s arms. Here are some quality gifts that will display your immense love for one another, and don’t fall under the “typical” cheesy gift guide category. Classified as the perfect princess, or subtle sweetie, these gifts are destined to please all.

1. Valentino Rockstud Patent Leather Point Toe, $595, available at Holt Renfrew
2. Alexander McQueen Wrist Scarf, $325, available at Holt Renfrew

Toronto Fashion Jobs – NYE Men’s Dressing Guide

Thursday, December 27th, 2012

It doesn’t matter if you love or hate New Year’s Eve – it happens annually and your friends will usually force you into some kind of event that has a dress code. While the ladies can throw on a dress and be done with it, the men will have to answer the age old question, “tie or no tie?” If the location is a low-key house party, a tie probably isn’t necessary and a nice button-down will do. On the other hand, if you’re heading to hot ticket event, throw on a tie that can be loosened after the clock strikes midnight.

1. Club Monaco Grant Suit Jacket, $425
2. Aldo Laguer Shoes, $150
3. Club Monaco Slim Fit Check Owen, $89
4. Joe Fresh Skull Sweater, $49
5. Urban Outfitters Levi’s 510 Modern Essential 5-Pocket Super Skinny Jean, $64

Vancouver Fashion Jobs – Holiday Gift Guide: Mom’s the Word

Monday, December 3rd, 2012

It’s always a joy at this time of the year to give to those in need and the ones we love the most. Nonetheless, as I get older, I find myself caring a little less each year about the endless materialistic side associated to the holiday and more about doing something good through volunteering or donating to a charity on behalf of my niece and nephew to teach them the value of giving back. This year my mom and I decided to forgo gift giving to one another and donate our time nearby instead to the charity Ancient Order of Doers Anonymous. There are several other charities in need out there for you to choose from if you feel inclined to help out those in need of a warm meal or a child who would love a teddy bear to snuggle up with at night, but in the meantime if you are feeling extra generous and have a little more to give this year, who better to spoil, on top of all your generous volunteering, than the mother you love most with some treats of her own!

You don’t have to spend a fortune, because let’s face it, your time is the most precious gift you can give to your loved ones, but I’ve rounded up my top 10 places to find those splendid splurges for Mom this Christmas! From jewelry with a special meaning to iconic fashion history, you’ll be checking off that list in no time and come out on top with good Karma for all your added do-good-giving in the New Year!

Toronto Fashion Jobs – Turbanarama

Friday, August 17th, 2012

Every girl deserves to wear a crown and lucky for us, ladies, the fashion industry’s current favorite is for the funky and daring. The turban is a hot trend that has been hitting the runway for the past few seasons and is now finally merging in to the mainstream supported by fashion’s bravest contenders. It can be styled in many different ways, like the examples above, but my personal favorite? The turban headband – it’s a no fuss, no mess alternative to a bad hair day and adds that extra ‘it’ factor to any look. Best of all, the turban is pre-styled for all you girls out there who love the trend but may not be as interested in DIY, and the colors and patterns are endless so you can really have fun with this look. I’ve traded in my crown for now, and I can’t wait to see how other style lovers will rock their turbans this Fall.

Vancouver Fashion Jobs – Pretty Pleats

Friday, June 22nd, 2012

Precise pleats are the season’s hottest detail when it comes to playing with easy and luxurious volume. There was monumental movement on the Spring/Summer 2012 runways of Chloé, Prada and Aquilano Rimondi, where shapes skimmed and flowed to create the ultimate feminine silhouette with details of accordion, knife and crystal pleats. The ethereal effect of the perfectly pleated piece adds volume without bulk, so both slight and curvier trendsetters can get a structured, slimming look with strong style content.
Work these pleats into your wardrobe with lightweight fabrics that are cool and breezy to suit the hot summer temperatures. Will you be pretty in pleats this season?

Summer is just around the corner, so it’s time to start showing off those pretty pedicures in this season’s stand-out sandals.
